Summary
The contributor tells of going hunting one night with a neighbour from Loch Aoineart [South Uist]. He encountered a very large otter, and was very close to it. He made several attempts to shoot it, but his gun would not fire. Later on, he was able to shoot game birds without difficulty. He felt uneasy about the otter. His sister's husband was a shepherd in Tiree. He once shot seven times at an otter without killing it, and eventually killed it with his crook.
