Summary

Biographical details and family history of Tom Todd; his grandfather's singing.

Tom Todd (T. T. Kilbucho) was born at Kilbucho Mains, near Broughton. His father and mother also came from the Broughton and Biggar areas. Tom speaks Peebles dialect. He was a sheep-farmer, and had two farms, one at Kilbucho and another at Glenholm.

Tom's grandfather was a fine singer, trained by John Templeton, a famous tenor at Covent Garden early in Queen Victoria's reign. Tom's grandfather was the first person to sing 'Scotland Yet'. Henry Scott Riddell brought it to him to try out when he was working in a harvest field at the farm.
