Summary
Anecdote about shares in fishing boats and stock market shares.
The owners of the Locksley, a steam-boat, had two-fifths of the shares and the crew three-fifths. One day a lad in the crew offered one of the men some chocolate. The man said jokingly that he did not eat chocolates himself but the lad should keep buying it because he had shares in Cadbury's.
Item Notes
It would have been very unusual for a working man to own stock market shares at this time, whereas it was usual in fishing communities to own part-shares in fishing boats.
