This waulking song has four sections. The chorus lines differ in each section. The first begins "I am unhappy / My lover has departed / On a full-masted ship / She came to land in Harris."

The second part tells how the composer is returning to Kintail.

The third part is addressed to a woman described as being beneath contempt, and in the final part the composer says "May I not wear the kerch (of a married woman) / If I do not love the hunter of the deer."
