Summary
A fragment of a ballad in which a man discovers his daughter after her death by suicide.
Item Notes
One verse only. The full song reveals that the girl commits suicide after becoming pregnant by a solider, who is then sent off to war.
A version of this song appears in Hamish Henderson's 'Ballads of World War II', under the title 'An R. A. Ballad', where he mentions the song as being very popular in the early years of that war. He himself learned it on his way to Africa during the war on the 'Viceroy of India', which was sunk on its next trip.
