Summary

How a man in Cape Breton who was lost was guided home by a stranger.

A man in Cape Breton went for a walk and got lost in a wood. After several days he came to a loch with a headland jutting out into it. He went to the tip of the headland, thinking he had a better chance of being spotted. He lay there awaiting his death. Then he heard a voice nearby and saw a beautiful young man dressed in shining white. He led him home, and disappeared.

An t-Urr. Tormod Dòmhnallach: Thachair gun deachaidh seann duine còir a mhuinntir Cheap Breatainn air latha samhraidh a-mach a ghabhail sgrìob bhon an taigh suas a chùm a chùl-cinn. Chùm e air adhart, tha e coltach, na b' fhaide na bha dùil aige dol mun do dh'fhàg e an dachaigh, agus nuair a thàinig e ga ionnsaigh fèin 's ann a mhothaich e gun robh e air chall.

Leis cho àrd 's cho dùmhail 's a bha a' choille ceithir thimcheall air, cha robh e na chomas a dhèanamh a-mach dè an dearbh ionad anns an robh e, nì motha a b' urrainn dha amas air ceum no slighe a bheireadh air ais e gu a nàbachd. Mar a b' fhaide a bha e a' cumail air adhart ag iarraidh na slighe 's ann bu mhotha a bha e a' dol air seacharan agus an t-slighe air an robh e ga shìor thoirt air falbh bho àite còmhnaidh.

Bha an duine bochd mar sin air chall fad cunntas làithean agus daoine anns gach àite a' sealltainn air a shon. Am feadh a bha e a' siubhal sìos 's suas anns a' bhreislich dhuatharrach seo, thàinig e mu dheireadh am fradharc loch, agus chunnaic e rubha beag a' sìneadh a-mach anns an loch. Thuirt e ris fèin gun rachadh e a-mach gu fìor ghob an rubha agus gum fanadh e ann an sin, a' feitheamh teasraigeadh no bàs - gur h-e an aon àite anns am bu dòcha daoine a bhiodh a' falbh ga iarraidh, no neach sam bith a stiùireadh am freastal an rathad, fhaicinn. Nam fanadh e mun a' choillidh, cha robh dòchas sam bith gum faighte e.

Sin mar a rinn e. Choisich e gu trom, fann gu gob an rubha agus leig e e fèin sìos air an talamh a' smaoineachadh nach robh ann ach am bàs dha co-dhiù. Cha robh e ach air sin a dhèanamh nuair a chuala e guth a' labhairt, agus sheall e suas. Chunnaic e na sheasamh ri thaobh duine òg, aoigheil air leth brèagha ann an sealladh, 's e air a chòmhdach ann an trusgan dealrach, geal. Thug an duine ciatach seo sùil bhàidheil, choibhneil air agus thuirt e ris:

"Lean mise."

Lean an seann duine e, ceum an dèidh ceum, gus an do dh'fhàg e gu tèarainte air cùl na dachaigh aige e, agus ann an sin chaidh am fear-iùil às an t-sealladh.
