Summary

In the late 19th century boats could be hired on the Tweed at Peebles for sixpence an hour.

When David Lawson was a boy there were rowing boats on the Tweed at Peebles which could be hired for sixpence an hour. Four boys would share a boat. The level of water in the river was higher in those days due to the mills working. This was where he first learned to handle a boat.
