Summary

Poem about being a shepherd in the Pentland Hills.

When the poet left school he was considered a dunce, but he did not care because he was content to be a shepherd in the Pentland Hills. It was a good life in the open air hearing the sounds of the wild birds. He met other shepherds at various places in the Pentlands. He hoped that the traditions of the shepherds would carry on.
