Summary

George Buchanan and the Englishmen's horses.

George Buchanan was at a gathering of Englishmen. He had a small white horse, which had no saddle. All the Englishmen had larger horses which were very smartly groomed. They laughed at his horse. After the horses had been stabled, George went in with a knife and cut the mouths of the Englishmen's horses. When the horses were found in this state, George said that they must have injured themselves while they were laughing at his horse.

Calum MacIllEathain: Seadh, bha sibh ag ràdh triop eile...

Aonghas MacIllFhialain: Bha Seòras, triop eile, bha cruinneachadh mòr aig Sasannaich agus dh'fhalbh Seòras agus each beag bàn aige, agus cha robh dìollaid aige air ach poca. Agus nuair a ràinig e, ò bha na Sasannaich a' dèanamh fun uabhasach air; nach robh dìollaid no sìon, 's na h-eich acasan air an dreasadh gu h-uabhasach. Chuireadh a-staigh do stàball iad 's nuair a chaidh iad a-staigh, na Sasannaich, dh'fhalbh Seòras agus dh'èirich e a-mach, agus fhuair e sgian agus gheàrr e beul nan each aig na Sasannaich. Bha iad sin a' sileadh fala 's iad nan seasamh anns na stallaichean 's nuair a bha iad deiseil a' falbh 's a thàinig iad a-mach, bha na h-eich a' sileadh fala 's bha iad gus a bhith deiseil aca. Cha robh fios cò rinn seo.

"Ò chan eil air na h-eich," arsa Seòras, ars esan, "ach far an deach iad às an ciall," ars esan, "a' magadh air an each bhàn agamsa," ars esan. "Sin an rud a th' air na h-eich," ars esan.
