Summary
Seating for passengers on the mail-coach; postal deliveries.
In the winter a little box like a hen-house was put on the mail-coach, supposed to seat eight, but sometimes taking as many as twenty. In the summer it was open. Jack MacQueen tries to obtain confirmation that it had to be pushed up Dyester's Brae [dyer's hill]. Jock McConnell caught it in the mornings, to get to where they were building a dam [pond]. The mail was delivered on foot and later by bicycle, except at Christmas when a pony and machine [i.e. vehicle] was put on. The mail-coach changed horses at Ardwell Inn.
