Summary

Travelling people in Glenlivet.

There were many Travellers, known as cyards, in the Glenlivet district in the old days. They made white iron [tin-plate] pails. The local people had no animosity towards them, and they were given food freely. Asked whether they were real Gypsies, the contributor reflects that some looked foreign, but many were red-headed.

Item Notes

'Cyard' is a form of Scots 'caird'.
