Summary

This is a lament for Gregor (MacGregor) and is said to have been composed by his widow. It is in the form of a lullaby. She thinks of how Gregor protected her in all kinds of weather. She has climbed to the uppermost room, and gone to the lowest floor, but he is no longer there. Her beloved Gregor, whom she describes as her fragrant apple, is dead.

Item Notes

3 quatrains sung. The chorus is sung after each one. This lament, sung as a lullaby, is attributed to the widow of Gregor MacGregor of Glenstrae, who was beheaded in 1570.
