Summary
A man falls in love with a girl who arrives in the Carse of Gowrie. He asks to show her on her way; she says she has in fact come to stay in the Carse, and he frankly asks if she will share his company. She agrees, and one year later they are happily married. He ventures that a happier pair are not to be found, and blesses the happy day he met her.

Transcribed in the School of Scottish Studies. 8 verses. Pastoral song.
Robert Ford in 'Vagabond Songs and Ballads' (1899) states that "no fewer than four versions ... are well known - one by Colonel James Ramsay of Stirling Castle; one by Lady Nairne; one- 'Kate o' Gowrie' - by William Reid of Glasgow," plus the one he includes, "by an unknown hand".
