Summary

Discussion on protective charms.

There was a woman in Tiree who used to make a charm for soldiers. There was an English sergeant who was recruiting men and he mocked her. She put out a fresh pat of butter and told him to try to cut it with his sword. He tried and his sword would not go through it. Then he asked her to make him a charm, but she refused and said that he would be killed in the first battle he was in.
