John, the contributor's great-uncle, was a wild man. He joined the Black Watch but had to leave as he was too young. He then joined the navy, but was discharged from there as well. The contributor's uncle told him stories about his grandfather and great-uncle. They were both tall men, but his grandfather was kind and polite while his great-uncle was wild. The contributor's own father was also a well-mannered man, but his mother's people were a wild lot.
