Summary

How Rosehearty got its name: a lad rose hearty after helping a ghost to find rest.

Stanley Robertson introduces a story that he heard from Bob Strachan, from Peterhead.

A young Traveller lad was given lodgings in a farmer's barn. He was wakened by a young man who asked for help, as he had been murdered and buried under the barn, and couldn't rest without a Christian burial. The lad thought it was a dream, but told the farmer. When it happened two more times, the farmer went to the minister. The three men dug under the barn and found the bones, which they buried properly. That night the man appeared to the lad to thank him. Next morning the lad "rose hearty", and that is how the village of Rosehearty got its name.
