Summary

How a Skye man met with a Gaelic-speaking skipper coming back from Australia.

The contributor had been sailing on the Australian coast and was working his way home on a four-masted, full-rigged ship. The day he signed aboard he noticed that the captain had a Highland name, Donald Cameron. They were making for Valparaiso in bad weather, with the contributor at the wheel singing a Gaelic song. The captain appeared and said, in Gaelic: "You are a good way now from the glen where you were young!" They often spoke in Gaelic after that.
