Summary
Superstition and fishermen: generosity rewarded with luck.
When Charles 'Codlins' Simpson was on the way from his lodgings to go to sea with the fishing boat 'Olive Branch', he met an old woman, Betsy, and gave her the price of a half gill. When he got to the boat, they were undecided about whether to go out against a head wind, but the skipper said that Betsy would bring them luck, and she did: their boat was the most successful in Cullivoe. Codlins is still superstitious.
