Summary

A tragic story of cannibalism at sea.

A ship that had been at sea for a long time lost its course in bad weather, and they had no meat [food]. They drew lots to see who would be sacrificed to feed the others. The cabin boy's lot was drawn. He was only sixteen and it was his first voyage. They killed and cooked the boy, and were about to eat, when they sighted a ship. The Captain's distress about the boy's death was so great that it finally killed him.
