Summary
A Faroese boat shipwrecked to the south of Hermetray.
A Faroese boat, The Puritan, was shipwrecked to the south of Hermetray during a gale in November 1921 [sic]. The contributor and three other lobster fishermen from Berneray were lifting their creels after the storm when they saw two men on Compass Knoll on Hermetray. They did not speak English. They took them to Berneray where they stayed for one night. The rest of the crew were never found. Details are given about the men, the boat and its cargo.
Item Notes
The shipwrecking of The Puritan took place on the afternoon of 15 November 1920, and not 1921 as stated by the contributor. The captain of the boat was Hans Pauli Olsen who was killed in the storm, as was his 17-year-old son Jacob.
