The old style of ceòl mòr in comparison with the modern style.
The contributor discusses variations in ceòl mòr. The principles adopted by the old composers are touched upon. He contrasts the old style of ceòl mòr with the modern style adopted by the Piobaireachd Society. He insists that, compared to the old style, there are far too many cadences in the modern style which did not appear in the canntaireachd form. To illustrate his points he plays, on the practice chanter, snippets from 'Scarce of Fishing', 'Glengarry's Lament', 'The Massacre of Glencoe', 'Struan Robertson's Salute' and 'Grain in Hides and Corn in Sacks'.
