Summary
Working life of Jock MacShannon as miner, distillery worker, and stoker on a coaster.
Jock MacShannon went down the pit in 1912 or 1913. He was called up in 1914 and was away for the whole of the First World War. When he came back there were no jobs at the pit, so he went to work in the distillery until it closed at the time of the General Strike in 1926. He then went to sea as a stoker on the coaster St Oran owned by J. and A. Gardner. He was in many jobs during his working life. There were very few working in the pit by 1962 as there was not much coal left.
