In this song a girl dresses herself in men's clothing and persuades a heckler to take her on as an apprentice. On the way home after a ball her master discovers her secret and takes her maidenhead, and they marry.
Mr Hay had the song from a man called Hepburn at Balgreen c. 1906-7.
Music transcribed in School of Scottish Studies. 8 verses. In some versions the girl is more complicit in her seduction. This is a fuller and franker version
than that in Ord.
