Essie Stewart was walking behind the cart at Inchnadamph on a drizzly day and noticed a little thing floating about. She thought it was a chocolate biscuit wrapping, but took a closer look and saw a little man, about six inches tall. He wore a red cloak and had a white beard down nearly to his knees. He had green boots with turned-up toes. He looked at her for an instant, but when she took her eye off him she never saw him again. She told her family, who didn't believe her at first. Alec describes Essie's reaction, and says her face was red.
