Summary

The song tells of the bard's joy at the news that the laws have been repealed which, among other things, forbade the wearing of Highland dress. He tells how people gathered in Edinburgh, dressed in Highland dress and playing the pipes. For over thirty years the Highlanders had been forced to wear a fashion which was alien to them, and depressed them. The Gaels can now dress as they wish, and can bear arms and hunt. They are proud once again.

Item Notes

Composed by Donnchadh Bàn Mac an t-Saoir (1724 - 1812). The wearing of Highland dress was forbidden since the Act of 1746. The law was repealed in 1782.
