Summary
Andrew Stewart recites his poem about his son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Charlotte.
One night after supper I'd been shavin my beard,
No better for coortin could I be prepared.
At my love's window I gied a large knock,
"Who's that at my window to cause me to walk?
Who's that at my window? Is that you, Jimmy?"
"Yes, it is me, with my coortin coat on."
She opent the door and she bad me come in:
"Come in ower beside me and tell me your news."
For he's in ower beside her, and the blankets all torn
There he did sport and there he did play,
He coontit the hours as the night rolled away.
'Twas early next morning she says tae me: "Jimmy,
You see what you've done with your courtin coat on."
"Oh, lassie, oh, lassie, as dinna grieve me,
It wasna for courtin that I come tae thee,
When my speerit's gaed away and I mind upon yon,
Ah couldn't be daft with my coat in my han."
