Summary

The young man is very keen to be married but wants a young woman who is tall, good looking, seventeen, good natured, smiles even if he knocks her down, is an early riser, is willing to pawn her clothes if they are short of money, and is willing to put him lovingly to bed if he comes home drunk. He says he can sing and dance, and if they are not quick they will lose the chance.

Willie Mathieson got the song from Willie Shepherd, foreman at Hawkhillock, Skelmuir, when he was about eight or nine.
