Summary

In this song the young woman tells of her voyage to Lothian and the life of a travelling harvest crew. The discipline is strict but she enjoys it.

Mr Strachan had seen the Logan of the song. The hook [i.e. sickle] was still used for reaping in Lothian when the scythe was in use in Buchan. Bands of reapers could work their way north from Lothian to Aberdeenshire as the corn ripened. Mr Strachan says that Logan was particular to keep the men and women separate.
