Text and music transcribed in School of Scottish Studies. 28 verses of 4 lines.

Contributor later stated (on tape SA1952.18.A9) that he learned this song at the age of around 18 from John Stewart at Hawkhillock, Ardallie, while "turnin raips". This song is loosely based on the historical events involving the marriage 1770 of Miss Erskine, daughter of the Laird of Pittodrie, to a solider considered beneath her by her parents. Two other songs based on the same events are grouped under Roud 406. Not to be confused with another well-known North-East song, 'The Back o Ben(n)achie'/'Gin I were whaur Gadie rins'.
